Underwater navigation
With the success of the Ictíneo I, in 1862 Narcís Monturiol began to build an underwater craft that was even safer and more productive. In 1864, he founded the Navegación Submarina society and launched the Ictíneo II, which reached depths of 30 meters.
This new craft was 17 meters long, with a beam of 3 meters and 3.5 meters from the keel to the hatch. 20 men fit in the inner hull, 16 of which were dedicated to propelling the craft. Unfortunately, the maritime industry failed to show interest in the project, and the company went under.
